Bono’s List of “60 Songs That Saved My Life” Features Johnny Cash’s “Hurt”

In honor of his 60th birthday on May 10, Bono compiled a list of “60 Songs That Saved My Life.”

The U2 frontman created the playlist—which is available via Apple, Spotify, YouTube and more—and will release a fan letter via U2.com to accompany each song. Six of the letters were released on May 10.

“These are some of the songs that saved my life,” said Bono in a statement. “The ones I couldn’t have lived without…the ones that got me from there to here, zero to 60…through all the scrapes, all manner of nuisance, from the serious to the silly…and the joy, mostly joy.”

The rocker selected songs from a number of genres, including The Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” Ramones’ “Swallow My Pride,” Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel,” Adele’s “Chasing Pavements,” Bee Gees’ “Immortality” and more.

On the country music front, Bono selected Johnny Cash’s 2002 cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.” Johnny’s rendition of the song earned the CMA Award for Single of the Year and Video of the Year, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.
